Background:

MADURAI SEED is working for socially, economically disadvantaged children and young people who need opportunities to come out of the situation. It was registered in the year 2007. Within the 6 financial years, there is much change and progress around us.

Social Background: Children and young people are belonged to socially, and economically marginalize families particularly Sweepers, Sanitary manhole workers, House maids, Construction workers, and other daily wage physical workers.

Achievements as an organization:

• MADURAI SEED is 99% run by a committed team of college young people for the last 6 years.
• After Children finished 12^th std in our education centers, they became volunteers to teach and guide the next generation of children.
• In 2007, MADURAI SEED was started in a small rental room. Now, our centers are functioning in 7 different rental places. 2 of them are open upstairs. It is an important thing that children come to the education centers regularly despite of rain, burning weather, and noises from loud speakers during festivals and communal ceremonies.   
• MADURAI SEED trustees, staff, and volunteers aren’t experienced or trained in professionally running an NGO. But, we have managed to learn things and get experiences in all sorts of works. Successfully, we have got 12AA, 80G, FCRA permissions from the government.
• Every year 300 to 600 children are directly benefited by the education centers. It reaches 1500 to 2000 children beneficiaries through other activities. Over 400 families got benefited by our service. 60% of our beneficiaries belonged to Dalit community. 35% is backward and 5% is minority communities.

• At first, Asha- Chennai came forward to help us for only six months. But, it helped continuously for five years because of the children and young people’s improvements. For the last four years, MADURAI SEED was a member in State level Federation for Child Participation Rights.
• At first, MADURAI SEED focuses only Karumbalai and its children. Now, Children from 10 various places make contact with MADURAI SEED and became the beneficiaries

• From 2006- 2012, Average Result in 10^th std is 95% and Average Result in 12^th std is 100%
• 98% of 10^th, 12^th, College students are the first persons from their families studied this level of education.
• 28% of women students who finished 12^th std did their higher education with the help of MADURAI SEED. 46% of them did with the family support. (The thing to worry about is 26% of them quit further education.)
• From 2007 to 2012, 32 young people have served as volunteers till the end of their college study. 70% of them joined in favorable jobs.
• In the last 20 years, only our students Vijay and Maheswari scored highest marks in 12^th std and able to get government merit seats to study engineering. Even though the number is less, it is a notable thing. We hope, in the forth coming generation there will be lots of improvement. 
• People who dropped out from school were given support through personal school mode. As a result, Mohan, Baskar, Marimuthu, and P.Manikandan became graduates. Mohan is going to study teacher training. Baskar is doing post graduation in Tourism. Alagumeena, Manimegalai, Sundar Rajan, Ganesh Babu, Prem Kumar, Thanga Velayutham, Balamurugan, and Sikkandar have completed their tenth, twelfth, and college through non school studies and now they are in various sorts of jobs. Particularly, Manimegalai has earned BA, MA, and B.Ed degree now.  

 Recognition in Schools/ Colleges:

• Last year, our people Mansurali, Mohan, Alagiri, and Muniyasamy helped Anupanadi Corporation School children in basic reading, writing, and mathematical applications. This year 2012, the school was able to achieve 100% result in 10^th std.
• Last year our young people worked with Elango Corporation School children.  
• MADURAI SEED has been given a place in School Management Committees.
• A.S.Karthikbharathi gave guidance and counseling to the children of 4 corporation schools and 1 aided school in choosing higher education and career. 300 students of tenth standard and 200 students of twelfth standard got benefited.   
• School teachers, college lecturers, and other professionals come forward to help as resource persons without asking any fee.
• Every year, students of social work department belonged to American College and Madurai Social Science College contact MADURAI SEED for getting information about the area’s statistics, economic, social, and educational conditions. 
• MADURAI SEED is working hand in hand with 5 corporation schools and 1 Government aided school.
• We are getting in touch with 31 various schools and 15 colleges.

 

 Skills and Personality Development Programs:

• MADURAI SEED organizes a bank for children to encourage saving trend. In the last five years, Rs. 105637 was saved and distributed by our Children Bank.
• In the last five years, 22 children magazines were published by and for the children. It reaches 500 beneficiaries in every two months.
• For 14 years, Children Federation Election and Various Club Inchargers Election were conducted among children for developing leadership and democratic system.
• Every year, MADURAI SEED children and other children jointly take part in the VASANTHAM SUMMER CAMP. Averagely, 120 children are benefitted by the camp.
• Many Europe and American travelers visit and appreciate the services of MADURAI SEED. Averagely, 15 come in a year. Some of them teach our children.

Other Community Service:

• In the last five years, 25 unit bloods were donated by our young people.
• Every year more than 5000 people are benefitted by our service of providing water during Chitirai Festival. It is the festival which more than 10 lakh people take part in.
• Other organizations admire our young people and their dedication. They like to employ our human resource in their planning and execution of activities. In the last years, our people gave their mind and physical works to old age homes, child rights, environment, and culture based programs of other organizations.
